The first floor magistrate courtrooms are where simple misdemeanors (including traffic) cases are heard. The magistrate courtrooms are also used for small claims and eviction cases.

Also on the first floor of the Scott County courthouse are the Associate District courtrooms, where serious misdemeanors, aggravated misdemeanors, and OWI charges are handled. The Iowa juvenile court, which uses the same courtrooms and judges as the Associate District court, are also located on the first floor.

The Iowa District Court is located on the 3rd floor, and handles divorce, child custody, child support, protective orders, general lawsuits, and felony cases.
